This AVG popup has been showing up on all sorts of websites today for me. The link sends me to a blog post about heartbleed on the AVG website. The issue is I have never had AVG downloaded on my computer at any point. Is it being done through chrome? Or is it some sort of virus?

I'm going to guess it's some sort of adware or virus, but I'm a Mac guy, so I really don't know.

If you have no AVG products, then likely you are infected. Run a Defender scan (I see yr on Windows 8) and download/run MalwareBytes

A lot of installs for other software will include AVG, when you are installing something people tend to next, next, agree, next without looking and that typically installs some sort of anti-virus or toolbar. I have AVG installed on my computer and have never seen this. Open up your Chrome options and go to Settings and then Extensions, you can turn AVG for Chrome off there if it is installed. Also, AdBlock is a huge memory hog!

Yeah, I was going to do that. I'm updating Malawarebytes right now.

Time to run your virus software in safe mode without networking

I have AVG as well, and I've not seen that pop-up so far. Moreover, it seems at least quite strange that AVG should send you to a blog stating that AVG website is infected by Heartbleed, or any other CSS injection: they'd be kinda shooting themselves in the foot...

You can, just to make sure, download and run a little software called Combofix. It is not a antivirus, since it doesn't have active protection or any other stuff, but it is incredible in removing pesky viruses like rootkits and sophisticated worms and trojans.

You can download it here . The program is what many people call "ugly", since it runs on a command prompt after you double click it. But it almost always remove some infection you didn't knew you had on your computer.
